SCAVI DI POMPEI City of Pompei

Wow!  130 steps up to the city of Sorrento. Can I make it?
Train to Pompeii was an easy 30 minute ride.

Do you see those cement anchors with the holes, along the wall? The sea waters used to reach here and the ships would tie up to dock.
                                                      Walking up into the city
                                           The Forum

                                          The Basilica

White marble altar believed to be in the temple dedicated to the "Genius" of Octavian Augustus, the first Roman emperor.
                                          Ancient pottery and artifacts found

Near the produce market, and built into the east wall of the temple of Apollo, this was the public office to control weights and measures.

Plaster cast of a victim found

                                          Forum Baths

House of the Baker with stone machinery to grind the wheat.

First pizza oven! Wood burning oven for breads & pizza.
Outside of the large great theatre

                                          Inside of the small theatre.
Mt. Vesuvius - the cause of it all
                                          Overlook of ancient Pompeii
Going down the stairs back to the ship was much easier!!
